Tuffcard, from the Floorgard range by SP Group, is a hard-wearing alternative to standard cardboard used for temporary floor protection. This article explains this product in detail and explores its range of uses.
How Tough Is Tuffcard?
Tuffcard is made from recycled light kraft paper, but what gives it its strength and durability is its thickness.
The 550-micron version is suitable for medium foot traffic, while the 750-micron excels at handling impacts, such as dropped tools. Both provide protection against light impact and surface wear. Moreover, the material itself can hold and contain liquid spills to a certain extent, unlike regular cardboard, which becomes mushy when exposed to moisture.
This makes Tuffcard an effective protection layer for the floor and other surfaces during construction, home renovations, and office fit-out work.
Best Uses for Tuffcard Across Sites and Spaces
Tuffcard is suitable for most types of floors and surfaces across a range of projects, including:
Painting or decorating work
Freshening up a home or tackling a large-scale office repaint? Either way, Tuffcard is up for the job of keeping your floors safe from paint splashes, drips, or scuffs—be it hardwood, vinyl, or concrete.
Take this as a sign to swap out those thin plastic sheets if you haven’t already. They might do the job in a pinch, but they often bunch up or tear, especially once you start shifting ladders or stepping over things.
Tuffcard, in contrast, stays put and doesn’t crease or rip easily. And thanks to its thickness, it can take the odd knock from a dropped brush or tools slipping out of your hand.
Fit-out or refurbishment projects
There’s a lot going on during kitchen renovations, office refits, or just giving a room a makeover. And that comes with floors getting chipped or marked from foot traffic or light spills, or damp getting in the way.
Surfaces, like windowsills, built-in furniture surfaces like counters, and open shelves, can take a beating, too. Tuffcard can keep them out of harm’s way while the job is still underway.
Cut it to length and shape with scissors, then secure it with low tack tape or reinforced tape so it doesn’t shift, and get on with the job.
Covering worktops in joinery or workshop settings
Tuffcard works on worktops, benches, panels, and other surfaces in use. Say you’re assembling cabinets or cutting timber on-site. Roll out a sheet over your workbench and trim it to size. This tough cardboard takes the knocks while also catching dust from sanding, sticky glue spills, and other messes.
